EEB Organizations

Graduate students in the EEB program benefit from an engaged campus community that supports academic scholarship, community, and outreach opportunities through two academic centers.

The Center for Ecology and the Environment (CEE) represents ecologists working in academic units distributed across campus. The goal of the center is to build and maintain community among UW ecologists, providing a nexus for faculty and graduate students to share ideas and enhance scholarship, and promoting UW-Madison’s prominent position in international ecological research. Through its executive committee, CEE organizes two annual symposia, supports graduate recruitment as well as research through scholarships, and supports an undergraduate job fair and SEEDS – The Strategies for Ecology Education, Diversity and Sustainability Program. EEB students have the opportunity to participate and serve in leadership roles within CEE.

Wisconsin Evolution – the J.F. Crow Institute for the Study of Evolution – represents evolutionary biologists working in academic units distributed across campus. The goals of Wisconsin Evolution are to address complex biological problems facing society, and to improve public understanding of evolution through education and outreach. Additionally, the Institute brings faculty and graduate students together to collaborate and promote academic scholarship. Through its executive committee, Wisconsin Evolution organizes a weekly lecture series, supports annual outreach events (such as Darwin Day), and promotes the study of evolution in K12 classrooms. EEB students have the opportunity to participate and serve in leadership roles within Wisconsin Evolution.
